I deserve a cold one...

So its been pretty nice in San Francisco recently, now its starting to get pretty hot. (or at least till like 2 days ago, been raining since) but not to jinx it... BUT I have been working my butt off recently. Not to mention I am returning to Portland pretty soon, just to visit family for a bit, then Denver for more of the same, and ACROSS THE LINE! (back to San Fran , couldn't help myself with the Top Gear joke)

Now since THAT has been said,....a cold one.

Post Apocalyptic Motorcycle Concept

Hello all!

So I have been kinda MIA recently but thats cause I got a job! Well I have 3 jobs, Tutoring, and doing concept art work with N.D.A.'s, like a real Concept Artist! (N.D.A. = None Disclosure Agreement)

So recently I have had motorcycles on my mind CONSTANTLY! So might as well do what I do best!

Testing!

Hello all,

Ok so I had this idea about using 3D modeling software (Maya , etc.) to do layouts for environments... like I said...testing...

Yes/No ?

15 min. Sketch fully realized!

When working from a model, the method says, get as much as you "need". Now when paying said model, "need" and "want" are two completely different things. I "want" to draw a good model all day long, but good models cost money! So it all comes down to quality and speed. To test myself, I chose to work from a model for 15 minutes, then from that point put it into photoshop and just go nuts. How much do I "need" ?

Which then became...

Which i am pretty happy with!

Yay! new stuff!

So I have recently been doing alot more vector work, which I am pretty jazzed about. I did this one for the Haight-Ashbury Street Fair. I am also planning on doing a realistic Camaro vector in the next few weeks. Best way to teach yourself something is to do it the hardest!

( Not to mention it will be for my brother, who is in the Army, and over in Afghanistan write now. He called me the other day and is requesting I do some work for him and "his guys" over there. Empty barrack walls? I think not! You boys need some ladies, cars , and videogames!  AND! I even know a guy.... LOL)

Anyways vector!

So it has been WAY to long!

So I have been seriously busy! Good things my friends, good things.

Now with that said, my goal for this quick study project was to create a city park/ communal space. I really wanted to focus on bringing people together, with nature and technology. These 3 things on their own are powerful, unforgiving, and indescribably beautiful....bring them all together.... well lets see!

Adding another pass of an "aged" version kinda just popped into my head half way through the project. Once I got to working on it I realized it completely strengthened the piece as a whole... I dig it!

Ok , ....so just one more pass...

Ok so back by popular demand, the "Flemeth" piece....more details...

I am very happy with it, I am also very tired...

A man broken...lol

OK so I'm a game nerd too, do recently I've wanted to play Dragon age 2 as much as the next guy! but I've been really working on my art work and pushing myself beyond my comfort level! which is making for long nights, not a lot of sleep, but its really been renewing me... so i approve...

hope you do too!

As Promised

So its a new week! So as promised, MORE ARM STUDIES! I did 20 all together! 10 straight, 10 bent.

Arms and hands are rather difficult, in fact i would say they are the hardest to draw. (or at least for me) Drawing arms can become repetitive after awhile that is true! but never tedious! things only become tedious if you are already good at them. Art has no exact answer, no perfect piece! so practice, practice and practice! and never think of it as being tedious!

On top of that i always knew the term "practice makes perfect", but i have come to realize whoever said that sentence for the first time, yeah, probably an artist. I have started this rigorous sketching "boot camp" of really getting  cracking! Get some work done! and none of that fluffy, draw your emotions stuff! This is art as a business! Practice, improve, repeat! I have already seen improvements in my own work, and that makes me happy!

Without further a due!

Everyone enjoy the beginning of spring!

STUDIES!

Ok. so for this weeks practice, i want to focus on arms and legs! now i know the muscles pretty well and could name them all, and all that good stuff. BUT! as an illustrator, i want to work on the interlocking shapes, and some rhythm! SO 10 OF EACH!

(next studies i do will be to get into the arms MORE and continue down the entire limb, wrists and hands are always the hardest. SO WE DO THEM NOW)

Vector Icons

Knowing vectors at first to me (a concept artist) seemed like a serious waste of time till i realized its advantages. with that when i see an advantage its time to learn it! Which translates to tutorials! So this is vector #2, Iphone Icons tutorial!

(5 Icons, 2 themes (skulls + sports genres)
(1 1/2 hrs each x 5 = 7 1/2 hrs)

Heroic Idealized Iconic Female in Action Pose!

how many adjectives does one piece of art work need? dont know for sure, but they do say a picture is worth a 1000 words. (i bet those words are mostly adjectives!) lol so yeah lets get to the point!

I needed to do some concept artwork for a colleague, and work more with black and white, painting light, texture, forms ETC! so my co-worker requested Star Wars' Asajj Ventress. Without further a due, and random rants of nonsense!
(This piece we are looking at 15-20hrs)
(includes sketch, draw, scan ,and paint)
(Personal WIN!- took out my line work again...life is good)

PRACTICE!

hello again all! so now to keep myself sharp you use a random phrase generator! DONT NOT CLICK TWICE CAUSE YOU DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO/DONT UNDERSTAND! learn it! do it! do it AGAIN! so this time it came up with the term "ill preparation". I instantly thought of malpractice in medicine! (due to things going on in my family recently) so here is this!

(took about 6-8 hours)
(personal WIN! - this is the first piece i have "finished" with NO LINE WORK!)

First post, ... introduction

Hello,

My name is Zock Zochert. I am a student at the Academy of Art University, in San Francisco. I am creating this blog to further hone my skills, and lets be honest, blogspots are accepted professionally and I am a poor art student. Now I know there are a lot of blogs out there, and a lot of art blogs on top of that. Well I have got good news, and bad news! BAD NEWS FIRST! I am creating one of those said “art blogs”. GOOD NEWS! I will never do the blowing smoke up your @$$, pretty words, or paint my feelings. I am an artist in the 21st century, its about speed, product, and meeting deadlines. Period. With that said, lets make art.

Zock Z

PS - I am going to post some examples of my work so you all know what to expect of me. Not to mention having a blog for me has a lot to do with seeing my overall progression. So i am not going to post every single thing i have done, that i think you should see. just things i have done recently.
